Born in 1963, Mariana Otero, after studying cinema at IDHEC, became passionate about documentary film. She directed several films for Arte, including "La loi du collège", which became the channel's first documentary series. Between 1995 and 2000 she lived in Portugal where she directed "This television is yours", which triggered a huge controversy in Portugal. Back in France she turned to cinema with "Histoire d'un secret" in 2003. In 2010, she directed "Into Our Own Hands", which was nominated for a César for Best Documentary. This was followed by "À ciel ouvert" in 2013, then "The Assembly" in 2017. Her last film, "Histoire d'un regard", on photo reporter Gilles Caron, was released in 2019. In addition, she teaches at the Ateliers Varan, Fémis, Jussieu, Creadoc (University of Poitiers/ Angoulême), ECAL (Lausanne) etc. She is a member of Acid, of which she was co-president from 2010 to 2012.
