Emerging filmmaker Mattias Bavré graduated in 2021 with his film _Z Bratem_ from KASK School of Arts in Ghent, Belgium, which won the Grand Prix for Best Belgian Student Short at Film Fest Ghent. He has a young but developed artistic practice rooted in the audiovisual observation, with a practical approach as a maker. Through seeing, listening and being in movement, he relates himself to the world of the other. _Zlata_ is his first feature documentary.
Twelve-year old Zlata has to find her way in Belgium, after she inevitably had to flee the war in home country Ukraine. Her father Petro and Findus, the cat, stayed behind, mother Ira and little brother Martin came along. Step by step the adolescent girl explores not only her new living environment, but also her own identity. Awaiting the uncertain arrival of her father, Zlata slowly opens up.
