Québécois filmmaker Mikaël Huot studied cinema at the Université du Québec à Montréal. A sensitive observer, he is particularly interested in exploring vulnerability in his films. After making several short films and his graduation film Après, he wrote, directed, and produced the short film Formol. The film was selected for numerous international festivals (Toronto, Cannes, Venice, Lisbon, Martinique) and received a special jury mention in Louisiana at the 12th edition of the Cinema on the Bayou festival. His documentary project The Specter of Waves premiered at the 39th edition of Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma as part of the “Making the Invisible Visible” program. The film was also a finalist at the Lulea International Film Festival in Sweden and nominated for Best Editing at the Canadian Cinema Editors awards in Toronto in 2022. Currently, Mikaël Huot is working on a poetic photographic collection titled Silences habités, created in collaboration with Marc-Olivier Godard and in partnership with several MRCs in the Laurentians. The project will highlight the enigmatic flora and fauna of the Laurentians’ ancient forests through a photo book accompanied by poems and reflections.
Forced to protect themselves and flee from exposure to the electromagnetic waves and fields that surround us, François, Suzanne and Lorraine share with us the torments imposed by electrohypersensitivity. Through an intimate approach, _The Spectre of Waves_ sheds light on the humanity behind the taboos that accompany this often-misunderstood intolerance syndrome.
