Originally from the Côte-Nord region and deeply attached to the land, Nadine Beaudet discovered documentary cinema while pursuing her master’s degree in applied sciences. Since then, she has been exploring the relationships people maintain with both their real and imagined worlds. She creates documentary films that blend human and territorial reflection, and her poetic creative drive is infused with themes of belonging, identity, and imagination. Her first feature documentary, Le cosaque et la gitane, won the Pierre-et-Yolande-Perrault Award at the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois in 2013. Her second feature, Le chant des étoiles (2016), unveils the unique encounter between astronomy and music in a poetic and human story. Co-directed with Christian M. Fournier, La maison des Syriens (2017) reveals the humanity of a sponsorship committee welcoming a Syrian refugee family in a small village in Portneuf. La fille du cratère, co-directed with Danic Champoux in 2019, tenderly and resolutely portrays the influence of Yolande Simard at the heart of Pierre Perrault’s work—her companion and great love. In 2025, she directs Manicouagan, a personal reflection on this vast territory.
