Nicole Giguère
Born in Quebec City, Nicole Giguère began making documentaries in 1975 with the Vidéo Femmes collective, which she co-founded. During her ten years with the group, she produced a number of films and videos dealing with the status of women, exploring a range of styles from social intervention documentaries to short fiction, music videos and music films. Based in Montreal since 1986, she works as an independent scriptwriter and director on auteur documentaries and TV series. Her most personal films deal with international adoption, with Alice au pays des gros nez (2003), and On me prend pour une Chinoise! (2011), both of which took several years to shoot. Her most recent feature-length documentary Prisons sans barreaux, chroniques de l'hypersensibilité environnementale, co-directed with Isabelle Hayeur, was launched in February 2020, during the RVQC. Since 2007, she has been on the board of Réalisatrices Équitables, as treasurer and coordinator of several activities promoting women filmmakers.
