The docu-fiction music video Les femmes me touchent takes us on a true flashback to the 1980s. It also validates the famous saying: "the more things change, the more they stay the same." For the Vidéotour contest, the Vidéo Femmes team, led by Nicole Giguère, was tasked with producing a film on the theme of insults. Nicole sought to visually depict the everyday violence faced by many women of all ages and backgrounds, set to a song by Les Folles Alliées.
Using a skillful mix of archival footage and staged scenes, the film evokes complex themes and emotions such as fear, shame, domestic violence, street harassment, rape, hypersexualization, and power dynamics. But that’s not all... it also touches on the strength of women who resist, who fight back, and who have the courage to leave and break the cycle of violence. Let's not forget the courage of the women behind the camera who, long before #MeToo, dared to address these taboo subjects. The image of the "motorbike-woman" will leave a lasting impression... Just like in the song: "Shame is a feeling that can't be shared." But it becomes easier to bear when we support each other, touched by one another's realities.
