Born in Montreal in 1946, Pascal Gélinas directed his first film in 1966 : Toute la vérité sur la vie tumultueuse de Franz Schubert, a fictional short film that won the Special Jury Prize at the Images en tête competition hosted by Société Radio-Canada that same year. In 1968, he co-directed the documentary Taire des hommes with Pierre Harel, and in 1973 directed the feature fiction film Montréal-Blues. In 1983, he co-directed the feature documentary The Ballad of Hard Times with Richard Boutet. This film won the Critics' Prize in Quebec, as well as the Silver Sesterce and the Ecumenical Prize at the Nyon International Film Festival. From 1984 to 2009, he worked as a director for the Société Radio-Canada programs Science-Réalité and later Découverte, where he produced over 300 reports and features. In 2006, Pascal filmed and directed Le porteur d'eau, which received awards in Quebec, France, and Tunisia. In 2009, he directed a documentary about his father, Gratien Gélinas, un géant aux pieds d'argile, which won the Gémeaux Award for Best Documentary Screenplay. In 2012, he directed Gilles Pelletier, un coeur de marin, an original self-portrait of the great Quebec actor. In 2013, he directed Huguette Oligny, le goût de vivre, a documentary about his mother-in-law, actress Huguette Oligny. In addition to the Gémeaux Award for Best Biography, this film won the Best Biography prize at the 31st edition of the International Festival of Films on Art in Montreal. Then, in 2016, he filmed Un pont entre deux mondes, a documentary that won around fifteen awards across America, Europe, and Asia.
