Pierre Falardeau

Born in Montreal in 1946, Pierre Falardeau quickly became one of Quebec's most prominent film and video directors. After studying ethnology, he entered the film industry through documentary filmmaking, then moved on to fiction. His outspokenness, his political and social stances, and his attacks on federalism and the colonial exploitation of workers have made him one of the most colorful intellectuals of his generation. Having repeatedly encountered systematic rejection from government film assistance programs, his work is synonymous with perseverance, provocation, and denunciation. In 1993, as a logical continuation of his video production, he circulated an underground video manifesto shot in 1985, Le Temps des bouffons. In addition to the cult series Elvis Gratton, he directed Le Party, Octobre, and 15 février 1839, among others. Pierre Falardeau died in 2009.
