Samuel Collardey is a French cinematographer and filmmaker born in 1975. After working in television for several years, he joined the Image department of La Fémis in 2001. His graduation film Sun in Winter (2005) won awards at numerous festivals. With The Apprentice (2008), he directed his first feature film, a cross between documentary and fiction, which won the Prix Louis-Delluc for best debut film and the Critics' Week prize in Venice. This was followed by Little Lion in 2013, Land Legs (Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival) in 2016, and A Polar Year (in official competition at Sundance) in 2018. Between 2016 and 2020, he also worked as a director on the TV series The Bureau In 2023, he directed Moochie, a documentary series for Canal Plus. At the same time, he continues to work as a cinematographer, collaborating with director Nassim Amaouche.
