Sebastian Mulder is a Dutch filmmaker, born in 1994 and based in Amsterdam. His work explores the conflicts and interactions between humans and the natural world, as well as the influence of technology on these relationships. His short, essayistic documentaries—often experimenting with unconventional forms—have been screened and awarded at numerous festivals around the world. His graduation film for his Audiovisual Media degree at the University of the Arts Utrecht, Nature: All Rights Reserved (2016), was screened at Palm Springs and Ji.hlava, and won Best European Student Film at Go Short. In 2021, NAYA – Der Wald hat tausend Augen premiered at Hot Docs and received the Best Documentary Form award at Kurzfilmtage Winterthur. In 2023, his short documentary And a Happy New Year premiered at IDFA, winning the Best Youth Documentary Award. He is currently working on a video installation titled Nature: A Self(ie) and his first feature-length documentary. In addition, Sebastian teaches at the photography museum FOAM and the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam, where he leads film and photography workshops and tours.
