Born in France in 1991 to Lebanese and Egyptian parents, Valentin Noujaïm joined Fémis in 2016, specializing in screenwriting, and graduated in July 2020. He directed the documentary Avant d’oublier Heliopolis (2019) and an experimental film, L'étoile bleue (2020), supported by the Doha Film Institute and AFAC, which was presented at Visions du Réel in the international competition in 2020. In 2021, he made his first fiction short film, Les filles destinées. He also worked on a feature film script. In his film projects, he brings marginal and strange characters to life in a fantasized, almost surreal universe, blending formats (DV, 8mm, digital, 3D). His work is deeply infused with social or post-colonial questions and explores power dynamics in contemporary French society through the lens of love and revolution. Through cinematic experimentation and videos, he seeks to capture life experiences that have been overlooked in the writing of history and its dominant understanding. Since 2022, Valentin Noujaïm has been crafting a video trilogy exploring the depths of the business district of La Défense. The three films will be accompanied by a series of sculptures for a solo exhibition in 2025.
