La lutte des femmes à Lip et ailleurs

Poster image La lutte des femmes à Lip et ailleurs

In June 1975, in Lyon, 80 participants from Lip (a watch factory in Besançon), other factories, hospitals, the PTT or the MLAC (Movement for the Freedom of Abortion and Contraception), gathered to discuss the role of women workers and employees within companies and union struggles, the isolation of housewives and the need to include them in collective actions. "La lutte des femmes à LIP et ailleurs" is a direct recording of their exchanges, conceived of as a tool for mobilization.

The organizational and discussion models explored by the women workers of Lip since 1973 reveal the importance of unraveling issues in women’s groups, at least at first. Analyzing the dynamics of domination at play in questions of gender, work and the home as a combined unit provides a political dimension to these issues, previously considered on a strictly personal level. The women of La lutte des femmes à Lip et ailleurs eloquently explain how a sense of sisterhood can create feelings of self-confidence and collective strength when, for example, speaking in a mixed-gender assembly, sharing demands that are specific to women workers, or addressing challenges within one’s romantic relationship.
