If maturity does not come to mind when you think of student films, you would be utterly wrong. When I first started selecting films for this program, I was astonished by the level of craftsmanship these filmmakers brought to their work and by their commitment to every story they chose to tell. These films are some of the best shorts I have seen. Being a film student myself, I can assure you: I have seen a lot.
Matilde-Luna Perotti crafted a raw and deeply personal diary film that leaves you needing a moment to breathe. Myriam Ben Saïd created an intimate portrait of Clémence, a young girl who left us too soon. Love has rarely felt as tender as it does in Kilómetro 126 by Felipe López Gómez. Jasmin Rose Guerrera offers a short and sweet homage to her grandmother’s story with The Andrea Doria's Last Message. And finally, if you live in Montreal, you will never be able to walk down Plaza Saint-Hubert again without passing by Johnny Libertella’s shop.
Every film in this selection invites a second thought, a second viewing, and perhaps even a third. Alone or in the company of others, we assure you an hour that will stay with you long after the screen goes dark.
