If an abuser’s power lies in the victim’s silence, speaking out is an essential weapon for the victim to break free. After the silence comes the journey toward liberation.

There are silences that do more than occupy space—they crush it. When violence is kept quiet within the family, when it is minimized or denied, it is not only those who experienced it who carry the weight, but also everyone still searching for words to tell their own story. Después del Silencio is both a denunciation of this culture of silence and a celebration of reclaimed speech.
Through a deeply intimate approach, Matilde Luna Perotti revisits the archives of her childhood and rebuilds fragments of memory to question a past marked by abuse and unspoken truths. The film exposes the mechanisms of denial and the way silence is passed down, revealing their full complexity. Between memories and dreamlike images, the filmmaker blurs the boundaries between reality and imagination, giving form to what often remains impossible to express.
Despite the pain running through it, Después del Silencio is never a film of resignation. It is driven by a powerful forward movement. Acts of resistance, bursts of revolt, and feminist songs break through the weight of secrecy. The film unfolds like a nightmare one slowly emerges from, until it reaches a space where dreaming becomes possible and freedom, finally, can be imagined.
