The films of Cecilia Mangini

Cecilia Mangini (1927-1921) was a documentary filmmaker and photographer. Her work brings a committed, attentive and personal look at the individual and society, paying particular attention to the issues of marginality, immigration and social injustices. First woman to shoot documentaries in the post-war period, screenwriter of some feature films and more than forty short films, mostly made with her husband Lino Del Fra. She has explored Italy from the late fifties to the early seventies, often turning her gaze to Southern Italy and Puglia, to seek the rituals of an ancient culture that disappeared overwhelmed by the rapid changes imposed by the economic boom. In 2009, Cecilia received in Florence the Medal of the President of the Republic, "for having transmitted to future generations, through her activity as a documentary filmmaker, some of the most beautiful images of Italy in the 50s and 60s".
