Primas

Poster image Primas

\_Primas\_ is an evocative portrait of two cousins, Rocío and Aldana, Argentinian teenagers who, in the wake of heinous acts of violence that interrupted their childhoods, will free themselves from the shadows of their past. Travelling in Argentina and Montréal, the girls come of age having revelatory experiences in their everyday lives; learning dance, mime, theatre, circus and visual arts. They express through their bodies what only their imagination, their unique perspective and their unshakeable resilience can reveal.

This documentary is testament to the strength of Rocio and Aldana, two young Argentine women unbroken by despicable acts. While the shocking recounting of the inhuman sexual crimes that they suffered may engrave itself in our memories, we also find in Primas a celebration of life and of human(e) beauty. With her intimate approach and fine-tuned ethical finesse, Laura Bari is able to shine a light on the power of family, friendship, solidarity and love. At the same time, the director’s process of exploring artistic gestures poetically exposes the expressive, even liberational, potential of the body.
