This House

Bridgeport, January 17, 2008. A teenage girl is found hanged in her room. While everything points to suicide, the autopsy report reveals something else. Ten years later, the director and cousin of the teenager examine the past causes and future consequences of this unsolved crime. Like an imagined biography, the film will explore the relationship between the security of the living space and the violence that can jeopardize it.

On January 17, 2008, 14-year-old Tessa was found hanged in her bedroom. A decade later, Miryam Charles revives her missing cousin through shreds of sensations, images and chimerical reminiscences, reimagining her aborted destiny. This house, a work of hybrid, ghostly form, travels between the United States, Quebec and Haiti; between demons and marvels; documentary, fiction and experimental poetry. It reveals itself as an intimate reflection on memory and mourning, but also as a powerful meditation on notions of belonging and home. A true creative force, Miryam Charles has long been part of the FNC's history and has distinguished herself at every level. Her first feature film, as much a favourite as an obvious contender, won the Prix de l'innovation Daniel Langlois in 2022.
