André S. Labarthe (1931-2018) was a French film critic, producer, director and screenwriter. After starting his career as a film critic in the 1950s, he joined the editorial staff of Cahiers du cinéma in 1956. In 1964, he began the series Filmmakers of Our Time, which he co-produced with Janine Bazin, and directed several episodes himself. Whether writing or working behind the camera, his approach to the seventh art is always one of analysis and perspective.
