Driven by a cinematography that is both austere and poetic, this short film explores the harshness of the northern climate not simply as a backdrop, but as a character in its own right. At its heart are immigrants confronting the depths of winter, whose resilience comes to the fore. Skillfully incorporating their off-camera testimonies, this slow-paced film unfolds as a universal meditation on isolation, displacement, and the capacity to adapt.
The director adopts a restrained approach, letting the expressive power of the characters’ gazes and carefully composed images take centre stage. Each frame reveals a remarkable formal precision, as the light of the Quebec winter becomes a mirror for inner melancholy.
