The White Guard

Poster image The White Guard

The Mexican landscape fades away into ashes and dust, fragmented, defaced and scorched. Behind barbed wirefences, forests, rivers and mountains fall to the hands of private companies. Once transformed, the landscape becomes a separate universe, an incongruous and dangerous area where the new masters and their mercenaries terrorize people into silence. The White Guard is a shocking and deeply moving film that exposes industrialization at its darkest: forced displacements, massive pollution, and a web of corruption, collusion, and assassinations.

Driven by the themes of social injustice and citizen activism, Julien Élie offers, after meticulous research, a privileged glimpse into the struggles of these communities. The film is also a technical achievement: the cinematography is remarkable, and the original score creates an atmosphere that is both alarming and exceptional.
